- “And so, it has come to this.”Yesterday
- Those were the words with which Johnny Carson started to wrap up his last Tonight Show, and they work for me, too. As a writer, it should be easy for me to find the words, fitting words which suit the situation, but I have to tell you, after six years and countless thousands of words, it’s still not easy. What gives me the greatest joy of all, in all this, is that my beloved wife Connie will no longer have to keep this bucket of bits and bytes running, and can spend more time doing the things she loves than putting up with the thankless role of Tech Support. People often say that “without so-and-so, none of this would have been possible” and their words ring hollow; well, in my case, that’s literally true. Without her, this magnificent website would have been a series of text pieces on BlogSpot or whatever, and to her go all the plaudits for what this site ever was. (Her farewell is here.) It would be great to offer words of exhortation for we few, we happy band of conservatives, to continue to take the fight to the socialists: but to be honest, I really don’t have those words, anymore. Besides, I’ve said all that so many times before that anything I say now would just be redundant. Somebody wrote to me and said, very graciously, that he now knows how people felt when Albert Jay Nock passed away. While that’s all very flattering, I am not fit to fill Nock’s pen, let alone be an heir to his astonishing legacy of thoughtful, philosophical and intellectua
- Ann-Margret (5)November 29
- As this will be the last Weekend Woman entry ever, I thought I might as well dedicate it to the most warm, beautiful, sexy and, well, red-headed woman of all time, one who needs no introduction from me or anyone else: Ann-Margret Still the greatest, still the best. A fitting way to end the series, I think. - Comments
- New Shooter ReportNovember 29
- I might as well add a quick personal New Shooter Report: Daughter’s best friend Lillie, who will be accompanying us on the 2008 Catholic Tour, wanted to learn how to shoot. Yesterday, she learned how to do so, in the most pleasant way: she accompanied the family, Doc Russia and Mr. and Mrs. Free Market to the rainswept Dallas Pistol Club range (thank you, Brooks, for your generous invitation), and was taught pistolcraft by Your Humble Narrator, then rifle skills by former Marine Doc Russia. Also present at the shoot: over two dozen different handguns (and she shot nearly all of them). Most of last night was spent discussing what pistol she’ll be getting when she becomes of age*, and various aspects of the self-defense. From left: Lillie, Daughter, Mrs. FM, Son&Heir, Tech Support. And now, a small Happy Dance. ---------------------------------------- *She just turned 18, and because of the stupid Federal law, is not allowed to purchase or carry a handgun, even though she is a slip of a girl, and therefore highly vulnerable to attack. Don’t get me started. - Comments

- Collective “You’re Welcome”November 28
- I have received literally hundreds of emails from people thanking me for doing this blog for lo these many years, emails which include their own personal stories of how they’ve become committed gun owners, and introduced more and more people to shooting. That’s wonderful news, and I’m glad that my lone voice seems to have done so much for so many. There is, however, no way that I’ll ever be able to respond to each of the emails—so if you’ll forgive my rudeness, please accept this post as a ”You’re welcome, and thankee for all the kind words” response. One last thing, on a foul mercenary note: more than a few people have written to tell me that they’d like to contribute to our Gold Watch Fund closer towards Christmas—bonuses, extra money, whatever—and so we’ll keep the link open until December 31st. (Right-hand column, just below the ads.) Thank you to all who’ve contributed so far, because you’ve helped make what was going to be a very tight trip into something a lot more comfortable. And now we return to our regular schedule… - Comments
