Tonight is the night for BIMA, (British Interactive Media Association) - the Association I Chair. The Awards now in their 24th year, are considered by some, as the BAFFTA equivilant for the creatives within the UK digital industry.
The gala is being streamed live and if you’re lucky, you’ll get to see me being heckled whilst handing out the Grand Prix prize.
- The Web’s 20 most visible individuals in the UKNovember 25
-
Using channels such as Twitter, Facebook, Flickr and YouTube, NowPublic has listed below, the Web’s 20 most visible individuals in the UK.
Their formula gauges connectivity and “publicness” across four categories, including:
- Online Visibility
- Presence on User-Generated Content and Social Networking Sites
- Interactivity and Accessibility
- The “R” Factor: Presence on Microblogging Platforms (Flickr, Twitter, Tumblr, etc.)
They also used Alexa and Compete, which I personally think are worthless. For example, visitors to your site must use the Alexa toolbar (considered by Spybot as spyware) in order for their visits to count. So, if you don’t have a techie driven audience, they’re less likely to have the toobar installed and your site’s rating will suffer as a consequence. Anyway, that’s for another debate.
Here’s the list:

The Library House 2008 Mediatech 100 supported by Kemp Little and NMA was released in New Media Age today. There are some great companies such as a Moo, Mind Candy and Rummble. But there are companies that in my opinion, although great in their own right, are not startups. Take Volantis for example, a company I admire, it’s 8 years old and is extremely well established within its field. Volantis is not a startup in my opinion and therefore, should not be listed.
By listing companies that don’t belong on the podium, you leave out those that are more deserving. I know from experience that Library House needs to be a little more intelligent. It recently recommended Wubud as a high-growth potential startup. Yet I, nor the team, ever published what it is in any detail. Certainly not enough detail to make such a recommendation. It has been covered in a bunch of nationals and blogs, but it’s all based on speculation.
Come on guys, get out there and network with the entrepreneurs and don’t just go by what investors
