I just updated to the newest version of Alert Thingy (1.3) that I found about from a post on TechCrunch when I got home just now and I gotta say this is getting much better. Not only have they added Twitter support to the point Twitter messages are displayed along side FriendFeed messages but they have also added Flickr support.

As well they look to have added a couple more themes to give you more choices beyond the typical Black and AIR color schemes. While they still don’t have an option for changing the font size; which was deal breaker for me in previous versions these new colors do make reading messages a little easier.

Now as much as I might like to use any 3rd party app for accessing FriendFeed it doesn’t fit in with my current work flow because I always have the FF page open in FeedDemon and I would end up bumping up against their API limits for getting new messages.

The big news today - for FriendFeed users at least - is that twhirl now supports FriendFeed. I first spotted the news when I turned my monitors on this morning and my eye was caught by a message on Twitter from Corvida from SheGeeks where twhirl had released an update that now had support for FriendFeed.

So once I had managed to get another coffee through the system and got caught up with my reading I grabbed the update and installed it. RSSmeme now shows FriendFeed friends postsApril 16 2008

Benjamin Golub of RSSmeme fame just posted a link in FriendFeed that will let you personalize RSSmeme using your FriendFeed friends list. By adding in your FriendFeed username RSSmeme will list all the posts your FF friends have made.

While not earth shattering it is kind of a cool idea bringing personalization to yet another service based by your use of FriendFeed

Alert Thingy Updated to 1.2April 16 2008

For all you FriendFeed folks waiting on the seemingly daily improvements to desktop apps for FriendFeed today is update day for Alert Thingy. With this update we now have some themes along with Twitter posting. While the themes do make it a little easier to read it still doesn’t fix the problem of the font size.

That said it is getting closer to being usable to a larger segment of those folks looking for desktop FriendFeed apps.

FriendFeed Filters & GroupsApril 15 2008

Aviv is at it again folks with a new script that let’s you filter your friends on FriendFeed into Groups. As Bret from FriendFeed said - Holy crap . you are more productive than we are as he called the new script Seriously amazing.

Now if I was a Firefox user I would be probably heaping the praise on Aviv as well .. oh heck .. what the hell  …. Way to go man - keep up the good work.
