WordPress Support Forums: Rude Support is a Disservice to the Growing WordPress CommunityToday

be nice (by zzzed)

I’m not very religious but do believe in the Bill and Ted “just be excellent to each other” philosophy. Well, at least, I try. Of course, there was the Blade Runner compliment debacle and the time I was snippy rather than reflecting on what was being said to me. But, I really think it’s easier to be kind.

Recently, for fun or because I am a masochist - I’m not really sure, I’ve being helping people on the WordPress forums. I get excited when I know the answer and I also learn a lot. People have encountered issues that I’ve never even heard of or are using really cool code that I hadn’t even considered using.

What I’ve found though is that some of the other members, while knowledgeable,

Stuff This in Your RSS - 12/02/08 - EleblogYesterday

Today’s RSS recommendation involves some shameless self-promotion. It’s my site so I can do that, right?

I LOVE elephants. I don’t know why and it didn’t start when I was a child. I think it’s because of their intelligence and group empathy. Over 6 years ago I started an elephant website called Eleblog in which I gathered all elephant related news. The site now contains almost 4000 posts and I have edited out posts linking to news articles that no longer exist.

The site was in a subfolder of this domain and over Thanksgiving weekend I moved it to it’s own domain - eleblognews.com (I wanted eleblog.com but some electrical engineer has that for his ele blog, grr…) Moving the WordPress installation and database and well as implementing the 301 redirects was a bit of chore but everything went smoothly. (I’ll write about this process soon).

Of course, I’ve lost my PR rank and traffic but that should be sorted out by the next time google does new PR’s. I’m

WordPress Plugin Search Reloaded - Tweaked by StratosDecember 1

TWEAK After Party (by pygment_shots)

A couple of months ago I wrote about the Search Reloaded WordPress plugin, which sorts search results by relevance rather than by date.

Recently, SDK commented and said that she would like it if Search Reloaded also searched the comments.

So, 2 weeks ago when Stratos agreed to create plugins for reasonable requests, I requested that Search Reloaded be “tweaked” so it can also search comments. And Stratos did just that. You can read about it on his website.

The plugin will search posts and comments and li

How to Exclude a Category From the Sidebar List in WordPressNovember 28

Excluded (by felinebird)

My portfolio page is created using posts and is not a static page like the About page. I did this to easily add and remove entries and so that the page didn’t become too large. It will display a set number of entries like any other blog post page.

The portfolio entries are in the category, portfolio. The code on the portfolio is set to only display that category.

I also use the Ultimate Category Excluder plugin so that the category does not display in my archives or in my rss feed. I’m hoping to spend some time on code based solution for that as well.

I realized that the Portfolio category was still showing up in the list of categories in the sidebar. I was using the Category Widget, because it’s easy, even though I’m not a big fan of widgets. The only way I could determine to
