Gipi’s latestToday

I ordered the new Gipi book a few days ago, can’t wait for it to get here. LMVDM stands for “La mia vita disegnata male”, “My life badly drawn”. Unfortunately it’s only out in Italy at the moment, but if you don’t mind that you can order it from Coconino Press, like I did. I’ll be sure to post a little more about it after I receive it. Incidentally I am surprised Gipi’s “S” still hasn’t found a publisher here, hope First Second has it in the works.

Venice C reviewYesterday

Here’s a nice review of the Venice Chronicles at Express from The Washington Post. Interestingly they review they book together with Drawn and Quarterly’s Burma Chronicles, I’ll have to pick that up. And on the VC topic below is a photo that friends Dani and James kindly took at Secret Headquarters, a wonderful book shop in Los Angeles. I like how my book is right by the Baby Journal.

Asian Art Museum LectureDecember 1

Ronnie del Carmen and I are gonna give a talk at the Asian Art Museum this coming saturday December 6th. The subject: “Totoro Forest - Miyazaki Hayao and his influence on western Animation”. We’ll talk about how the master’s body of work has influenced us personally and how it has managed to inspire a whole generation of animators and filmmakers around the globe. We’ll then delve into how that same inspiration Miyazaki has given us was harnessed into the celebrated fundraiser Totoro Forest Project. The lecture is free with Museum Admission ($12 regular ticket, $7 Students). Asian Art Museum members are always free.
