- The timing was just about perfect. Monday at 10:25 a.m., a Greyhound bus pulled up for the first time to the new Northeast Oregon Public Transit Building at 2204 E. Penn Avenue. It let off a couple of passengers and took on a couple more. A half-hour later, a crowd of about 40 people gathered outside the transit building to watch Frank Thomas, Community Connection’s Union County manager, cut a ribbon marking the official opening.

- Fire destroys Habitat for Humanity home in ElginYesterday
- Elgin, Imbler and La Grande Rural fire departments respond to blaze that renders house total loss ELGIN — A home remodeled in 2005 for an Elgin couple by Habitat for Humanity was destroyed by fire Tuesday afternoon. About 12:20 p.m., fire broke out at the house owned by Tom and Margaret Leonard at 1093 Galveston St. Margaret Leonard and her children were inside at the time, but escaped without injury. Cause of the fire is under investigation.
