- Get Free Dr. Pepper Online (Courtesy of Axl Rose)Yesterday

Mark your calendars: Sunday’s the day to cash in on Dr. Pepper’s long-standing challenge to Axl Rose. The soft drink maker had said back in March that it’d give a free can of Dr. Pepper to “everyone in America” if Rose’s Chinese Democracy album actually came out in 2008. The album — currently available for free streaming at MySpace Music — officially comes out Sunday.
So that means Sunday, you can grab your free can and celebrate. Dr. Pepper says it’ll post coupons for free 20-ounce sodas on its Web site for 24 hours starting at 12:01 a.m. Sunday. The coupons will be good until the end of next February.
“We never thought this day would come,” Dr. Pepper execs said in a statement. “But now that it’s here, all we can say is: The Dr Pepper’s on us.”
Carbonated refreshment aside, though, does Chinese Democracy live up to its 14-year hype? The Los Angeles Times and
- Michael Jackson signs up to Islam and a new nameYesterday

Pop singer Michael Jackson converted to Islam in a ceremony in Los Angeles this week.
An imam was summoned from the mosque and Jackson went through the shahada, which is the Muslim declaration of belief at the home of Steve Porcaro, a keyboard player who composed music on his Thriller album, according to reports.
He is said to have sat on the floor and worn a small hat while an imam officiated.
Jackson was counselled on converting by David Wharnsby, a Canadian songwriter, and Phillip Bubal, a producer, who have both previously converted to Islam. According to The Sun Yousef Islam, previously Cat Stevens until he converted turned up to help Jackson celebrate.
As part of the conversion, Jackson has also had a name change. The artist and accused child molester formally known as Michael Jackson is now known as Mikaeel, although it wasn’t clear whether he’d gone the Prince route with one name, or has kept his last name, or changed it to something different.

- PETA says meat eaters should pay more insuranceNovember 19
-
That wacky mob PETA, fresh from “flouring” Lindsay Lohan in Paris has sent a letter to BlueCross BlueShield health insurance company in Vermont on behalf of their 2 million members asking that health insurance premiums be raised for meat eaters and reduced for vegetarians.
They state that meat eating is linked to some of America’s “deadliest diseases” and that agreeing to this request will result in the company saving money, which we all know PETA cares about.
PETA argues that a a cut in insurance premiums would give people an “incentive” to do without meat and that will make them healthier. The letter also warns of the danger of E coli outbreak. I would be more worried about catching the outbreak of smug, superiority that normally accompanies being a vegetarian and PETA member.

A new website has been launched which looks at the media’s role in the election of Obama. Called howobamagotelected.com the site alleges that Obma got elected because the news media failed to do their job. Malpractice was the term they used, and it Malpractice by the Media; How Obama Got Elected is the name of the documentary that the people behind the site are putting out. I guess these guys are right wing Michael Moores.
